Top Tips for Parents from the Year 3 Team
Your child needs to bring in their PE kit every Monday and take it home every Friday. Please ensure that all parts of their kit are named. Please remember that if your child has long hair they must be able to tie it back for reasons of safety. All earrings and jewellery must be removed or taped for PE lessons.
At Cottesmore, we feel that homework is a vital way for you to be a part of your child’s learning. Your child should be reading daily and have the opportunity each day to change their book. Over the course of the term children will have a creative homework topic based around our termly theme. This allows them to complete homework that that have an interest in and ensures they can be creative. The children will be set a weekly spellings and maths homework, based on their classroom learning that week. Usually we will use MyMaths which is an online programme. You and your child will need to know their individual login for MyMaths – if you have not received this please speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance. The children also have access to ttrockstars. This is an online game that help to learn times tables where the children have rockstar avatars.
Please encourage your child to read to an adult at least four times a week. When they have read, please remember to record this in reading records (even if it is just your initials – you do not necessarily need to write a comment). Book bags must be brought in everyday regardless of whether the book needs changing or not. This is so we can try and read with your child in school. We also have reading awards that celebrate the times where a book is shared with an adult. The children gain these after sharing a book with an adult after 100, 150 and 200 times.
It is vital that your children bring in water to keep themselves hydrated. Please ensure that you provide your child with a water bottle each day. We have a water bottle box within the classroom in order for children to be able access their drinks throughout the day.
Celebration Assembly will take place every Friday at 2.25pm. Each week one child from each class will be nominated for a Star Award by the class team. If your child is nominated you will receive a phonecall on Thursday and will be invited to attend the assembly. We would like you to keep this a secret from your child in order for them to be surprised on the day!
At Cottesmore we believe that effective communication is essential to ensure that your child achieves their full potential. There are various ways in which you can communicate with us as a team. Please feel free to speak directly to your child’s teacher, or speak to a member of the Leadership Team who will always be available at the beginning or end of the school day. We also have Class Dojo which allows direct messages between home and school as well as daily posts and pictures on the Class Dojo page.
How can I help my child?
Please try and read with your child at least four times a week and help them to practise their spellings. We will be rewarding children who consistently complete their spelling and times table homework.
We would encourage you to talk to your child about their learning, this will reinforce their knowledge. And you never know…. You might learn something yourself!
